Prospective Marriage Visa (Subclass 300)
Overview
The Prospective Marriage Visa allows you to travel to Australia to marry with your fiancé(e) who must be an Australian Permanent Resident, Australian Citizen or eligible New Zealand citizen. You must marry with your fiancé(e) within 9 months of visa grant. Later, you can apply for Partner Visa for permanent residence.
- This visa allows you to stay up to 9 months from the date of visa grant.
- Family members can be included in this visa application.
- After marrying your sponsor within 9 months, you can apply permanent residence visa.
- This visa gives you the right for multiple travel.
- It is recommended to have health insurance.
General Requirements (criteria)
You must:
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Be sponsored by your sponsor.
- Be in a genuine relationship with your prospective spouse.
- Have clear intentions to marry your prospective spouse (sponsor).
- Meet health and character requirements.
- Marry your prospective spouse within 9 months of visa grant.
- And also satisfy other requirements as set out in laws.
You sponsor also need to satisfy certain criteria.
After marrying your prospective spouse, you can apply for permanent residence visa.

‘Capping and Queueing’ is a process implemented by the immigration department of Australia for granting some of family category visas e.g. parent visa. Immigration department determines certain number of visas for each financial year for some visa and after reaching that number of visa grant, other pending applications are queued to be processed next year.
You may apply partner visa now if you satisfy all other criteria. Marriage is just one of the criteria need to be satisfied.
